How To Change Windshield Wipers For Lexus Cars

Nothing is more essential than good visibility if you want to ensure a safe journey on the road. Changing your windshield wipers regularly is essential to maintaining good visibility.

Windshield wipers comprise three basic parts:

  • Lower wiper arm
  • The blade that attaches to this wiper arm
  • A rubber refill that wipes your glass

It is the rubber refill that will eventually disintegrate due to wear and tear caused by dust, dirt and weather conditions. In most cases, it is just the refill that you will have to replace. However, the blade itself can also weaken. It could lose its tension against the glass or bend due to an influx of ice or snow. If your blade is not making contact with the windshield, or you are having issues with chatter, you will have to replace the entire blade.

Below, we list out the steps that you can follow to replace your windshield wipers.

Buy Wiper Blade Refills in the Proper Size

You want to measure your windshield wiper blade refills to determine the exact length the replacement should be. Wipers on both the driver's and passenger's side are not necessarily of the same length; one is typically at least an inch longer than the other.

Remove the Old Wiper Blade

  1. Start by pulling the wiper arm away from the glass.
  2. You will then want to place a bath towel or a similar object over your windshield to protect it, in case you lose hold of the wiper arm and it snaps back against the glass.
  3. Once you have pulled the arm back, angle the blade so that its bottom flips towards the top.
  4. Look for the retaining clips located near the end of your wiper refill. With a pair of nose pliers, pinch them together and start sliding the refill out.
  5. Once you have slid the clips beneath the blade clamp, set your pliers down and remove the old refill with one hand while supporting the blade with the other.

Insert the Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

  1. Gently insert the new windshield wiper blade replacement through the same end from which you pulled out the old one.
  2. Ensure that the new blade replacement is held securely between each clamp to avoid scratching your windshield. You also want to make sure that the retaining clip has clicked into position in the last clamp.
  3. Angle the wiper arm back into its position, and then release it.
  4. Repeat the process on the other side - you've now replaced your windshield wipers.
